2010 - European Year for Fighting Poverty and Exclusion: Preston event

Date:
Fri, 14/05/2010

2010 is the European Year for Fighting Poverty and Exclusion.  The aim of the year is to give voice to the concerns of people across Europe who live with poverty and exclusion. The year will be about challenging stereotypes, listening to the stories of individuals and communities and
to renew the commitment to combat poverty and exclusion. National and local events are taking place in every EU member state plus Norway and Iceland which include awareness raising campaigns, workshops and seminars with schools.
Here in the UK activities are being delivered regionally, in the North West activities are run by Church Action on Poverty along with its partners, Our Life, Oxfam and GAP.

As part of the European Year for Combating Poverty (2010) in the North West, the first half of the year will be spent uncovering the main issues that keep people in poverty. To find out the issues and myths on poverty, Church Action on Poverty is looking for groups to run local activities to listen to people experiencing poverty. All organisations who register to take part in the Listening Campaign will be entitled to attend free training from Church Action on Poverty.

The initial dates and venues for training are as follows:
Manchester – Tuesday 27 April 2010 - CAP offices , 35 Dale Street, Manchester
Preston - Friday 14 May 2010 - GHS Enterprise Centre, Preston
Liverpool - Wednesday 26 May 2010 - Glaxo Nerological Centre, Liverpool

In November 2010 Church Action on Poverty will hold a North West regional assembly event where your organisation will have the opportunity to put your concerns, air views and highlight the issues you
have uncovered to regional and national policy makers.
