Community Forest Programme Threat

One of England’s most successful regeneration schemes could lose its ability to be innovative and pioneer new ideas unless it can secure core funding, the initiative’s director has warned. An evaluation of the Community Forests programme showed it had consistently exceeded targets since it launch fifteen years ago. But the break up of the Countryside Agency, which provides the forests with core funding, could hamper their ability to sustain that success. Although a two-year transitional funding package has been put in place, long-term funds are the key, according to John Vaughan, group director of the Community Forests Programme.
