English ESF Doing Well

The European Commission has allocated an extra £111 million to the English European Social Fund as a result of its Objective 3i Programme achieving interim performance targets. The funding was announced by Work and Pensions Minister Chris Pond in November and follows a review that showed a high level of performance by the European Social Fund (ESFi) in England. The UK Government and the Commission recently agreed to adjust the Objective 3 Programme to target more support at people who are at a disadvantage in the labour market and the extra money will be used to help those who are long term unemployed or inactive. The funding is part of the Structural Fundsi 'performance reservei', which is set aside until programmes meet financial deadlines.
