Investigation into European Funding Fraud
Government auditors have joined the battle to control European Structural Fundsi by announcing an investigation into how the funds are managed. The announcement was made in a National Audit Office report after European auditors revealed that reported cases of Structural Funds fraud tripled between 2001 and 2002, while its monetary value more than doubled. The NAO will seek to identify best European practice in managing the funds and tighten controls. The result of its audit will be included in its report next year.
