MPs Warn of ‘Catastrophic’ Fall in European Jobs Aid

Cuts to European money designed to help the socially excluded back into work will be ‘catastrophic’ for community groups across the UK, MPs warned last week. The Commons work and pensions committee urged the government to find alternative sources of funding to replace anticipated cuts in the European Social Fund, which aims to improve the employability of individuals across the EU. Huge reductions in Britain’s share of the fund, worth 7.2bn euros over the seven years to 2006, are anticipated when the EU expands in 2006.
