Salford Regeneration

Plans to transform Salford City Centre look set to be delivered by a new breed of urban regeneration company (Urc), it has been revealed. Discussions are under way between the City Council, North West Development Agency and English Partnerships on how the Urc model could be adapted to give the private sector a more prominent role. Partners believe this will help Salford benefit from its proximity to Manchester in terms of attracting private investment. Salford Council said discussions were ongoing, but it hoped a bid for an Urc would be submitted to the ODPM by the end of this year. A shadow board with private and public sector representatives is already in place to develop proposals.
