Good reporting benefits both charities and funders. But sometimes it can be overly burdensome and excessive. The report Turning the tables in England: Putting English charities in control of reporting by New Philanthropy Capital (NPC) was funded by the Office of the Third Sectori (OTS) in the Cabinet Office to help drive forward its programme to cut red tape for charities – focusing on unnecessary burdens in monitoring and reporting requirements. The aim of this report is to identify which reporting burdens charities feel most keenly so that unnecessary red tape can be removed or reduced. Turning the tables England, calls for charities to work with their funders to streamline reporting. One solution piloted in the report is for charities to design and produce their own off-the-shelf, standard reports for funders, containing the information that demonstrates they are a well-run organisation achieving impact.
